For twenty years after her husband's passing, she has lived a peaceful life with her son, Tatsuya. Thanks to her husband's life insurance, she didn't have to work, and they enjoyed a happy life together. Tatsuya grew up without his father, and now, as he prepares to graduate from university, she feels a sense of relief. But in the midst of this happiness, she has one concern: Tatsuya's inability to move on from his father.
For Tatsuya, his father's death was a great stress, and ever since, he has turned to his mother for comfort, a habit that has continued through the years. As Tatsuya approaches adulthood, she believes it's time for him to make the transition and move on from his father. She gently encourages him to try to become independent, even if it means letting go of the comfort he has always known.
Tatsuya, however, is reluctant. He doesn't want to stop, and the idea of moving on from his mother feels impossible. Still, he agrees to a promise: for one week, he will try to break free from his father's influence, and in return, he will be able to rely on his mother's comfort once again.
The week begins, and Tatsuya's journey to independence starts. At first, the separation feels difficult, but as the days pass, he becomes more and more involved in the process. Each day, he is reminded of the comfort his mother provides, and the emotional bond between them grows stronger.
As the week draws to a close, Tatsuya is faced with the reality of his feelings. He feels a deep connection to his mother, and even though he wants to move forward, he still finds comfort in her presence. In the end, although he makes progress, the full separation from his father never truly happens — and instead, he finds a new kind of bond, one that brings him even closer to his mother.
